Father Germaine Coulibaly Kalahari - Founder of Sainte Genevieve Welcome Center

Sainte Genevieve Welcome Center

- was founded in September 2011 by Father Germaine Coulibaly Kalahari with one goal in mind: help every child from his tribe in danger of infanticide or abandonment.

Before founding the St. Genevieve orphanage in Katiola, Father Germaine conducted a survey in the surrounding villages and found that twins, children with disabilities, and children whose mothers died in childbirth were killed because area tribes still believe such children are “snake children” - evil spirits which will bring disaster and havoc to the tribal community.

Father Germain and Habiba Koné, a social worker for the orphanage, have set up a vigilance committee in different neighborhoods who report cases of child endangerment.

FUNDRAISER

A few years ago, Koné Consulting raised and donated $9,000 US to send to Father Germaine to help with expenses related to building a new facility that could host more children. This included purchasing a plot of land adjacent to the existing center and beginning construction on new buildings. We also provided a little holiday celebration for the children in December.

This year, we are aiming to raise $4,000 US to cover the final utility expenses so they can prepared to support more children and staff! One family has already pledge to match donations up to $1,000. Please consider supporting our efforts by donating or raising awareness about our mission!
